These refreshing agua fresca summer drinks are cool and fresh. The drinks are REFINED SUGAR FREE and non-alcoholic so kids can also enjoy on a hot summer day. Agua Fresca, Spanish for “cool water or freshwater, is a mix of fruit, flowers or herbs, sugar, and water creating a refreshing and delicious drink for the warm summer days!

It’s made by blending together chunks of fruit with sugar and water until it’s liquid. It is then strained through a sieve to remove the pulp. We enjoyed these as kids. Mom whisked up so many different flavors of these babies for us to enjoy. Now, as a mother myself to two boys, I make these regularly every day during summer and our kids relish them thoroughly.

I make the same Agua Frescas as mom did; combining fresh fruits, berries or herbs and whisking them all to make refreshing drinks. I add my own healthy twist to it and add brown sugar or honey instead of regular refined white sugar because I hate white sugar.

I share below 5+ refreshing Agua Fresca summer drinks handed over to me by my mom. Most have just 2-5 ingredients which are key. I don’t like to stock up on a lot of stuff, so having recipes where the ingredients are already on hand is a lifesaver.

These are also great drinks to serve at parties. Simply have a platter of fresh fruits and berries to serve as accompaniments to go with these fabulous Agua Frescas.

1. Honey Dew Cucumber Agua Fresca

Honeydew-cucumber juice is a refreshing drink perfect to sip on hot summer days. If drinking green smoothies makes you feel like you are drinking lawn clippings, this one’s a great green drink that will have you slurp on a fruit-veggie combo.

It will not only refresh you but will also provide you with the energy to sail through the warm days. It is full of the refreshing goodness of fresh cucumbers and honeydew and tastes absolutely divine.

Ingredients for Honeydew-Cucumber Juice

1 Honeydew melon quartered

3 cucumbers peeled and cut into pieces

Juice of 1 lemon

1 tablespoon honey

How to Make Honeydew Cucumber Agua Fresca summer drink

Scrape off the flesh of Honeydew and puree with diced cucumber in a mixer juicer. Pulse it for a minute or two util it forms a paste. Add a cup of chilled water and pulse again with the juice of 1 lime and some honey. Add more water to adjust the consistency.

Serve chilled

2.Lychee- Melon Sugar-Free Granita:

This southeast Asian Fruit of the soapnut family is a must-have on a summer soiree list of delicious refreshing summer drinks. Whats’s more, they are known to have floral undertones while being linked to some serious nutrients. Wikipedia says – eating 9 lychees a day satisfies the daily vitamin C requirement. Combine the pretty pinkish fruit pulp with another summer darling – melon, and you have a winner.

Ingredients for Lychee- Melon Sugar-free Granita

1/2 cup cubed watermelon

10-12 lychees

8- 10 mint leaves

1/2 cup brown sugar

juice of 1 lemon

1 Tsp grated ginger

How To Make Refined Sugar Free Lychee-Melon Granita

Deseed and Puree the lychees.

Blend mint leaves, ginger, and sugar. Pulse once to release flavors.

Now add 1 cup of watermelon chunks, lychees, and lemon juice and blend with 2 1/2 cups water. Add a few dashes of rose water to enhance the floral undertone of lychee.

Combine this with the ginger-mint mixture made previously and mix well. Freeze till ready to serve

3. Raw Mango Summer cooler- Aam Panna Agua Fresca

Summer is incomplete if you haven’t had your share of raw mangoes. We grew up sipping Aam Panna. This tang-sweet summer cooler was everyone’s favorite. Mom never indulged in it’s fancy version of adding spices. She would rather pressure cook the peeled raw mangoes, mash them up and store the pulp in ice trays. We relished this version of simple and straight forward drink. It was nevertheless always a hit.

Ingredients for making Aam Panna

Raw mangoes- peeled chored and chopped

Brown Sugar or jaggery1/4 cup

Method:

Pressure cook mangoes for 2-3 whistles. In the meantime, combine jaggery/brown sugar and water and heat until melted. Let it cool.

Push the boiled raw mangoes through a sieve to mash them up evenly. Let cool completely.

Once cool combine the sugar syrup and the raw mango pulp and pulse it for a minute. You may use a hand blender as well.

Transfer to a pitcher and serve chilled. Store away the extra as ice cubes for later use.

4. Musk Melon Agua Fresca summer drink

Juicy melons are one of the best summer coolants and thirst quenchers. Great for kids who don’t like to chew fruits and a great quickie juice option for unexpected guests.

This summer fruit comes pre-loaded with nutrients and tastes amazing.

How to make Musk Melon juice/Agua Fresca

Ingredients

1 honeydew melon, quartered and seeded

1 cup water

3 tablespoons brown sugar

2 cups ice

Method

Scrape flesh from the melon quarters into a blender; add ice cubes, water and brown sugar. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.

5. Berry Guava Lemonade

Fresh Strawberries and Guavas used to make this drink lend a lovely coolness and just about the right amount of sweetness. It is the perfect drink to go with breakfast as also great to sip on a cool summer evening.

How To Make Berry-Guava Lemonade

Ingredients

4 strawberries diced

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 Ripe Guava cut in quarters

Juice of two Lemons

2 cups ice

Method

Blend Strawberries and Guava quarters in a juicer with 2 tablespoons brown sugar and a cup of water. Once blended, strain the mixture using a strainer and pour over a bed of ice. Squeeze lemon juice on top. Serve chilled.

6. Frozen Raspberry Lemonade Agua Fresca

All you need to make this sweet-tart frosty treat is a blender, some ice and the three simple ingredients. Apple concentrate/nectar, freshly squeezed lemons and frozen strawberries.

Just dump everything into your blender and let it fly!

Here’s where you’ve got options, depending on whether you’d like to eat or drink your frozen lemonade into a glass, stick a straw in it, and serve right away. For a firmer, slushier lemonade that’s best eaten with a spoon, pour it into a jar and freeze it for an hour or two.

In Conclusion

Remember how great it was to be a kid? Playing hard on a hot summer day, then chilling out in the shade with a frosty popsicle or an icy glass of lemonade or punch. And I want my kids to experience the same refreshing memories themselves.
